What is permaculture?

Permaculture is a contraction of the terms “agriculture and culture” and “permanent“.

Permaculture is both an ethical-philosophical reference system and a practical approach to daily life according to its three ethics: people care, earth care and fair share.

The Swiss Permaculture Academy recognizes permaculture as a design system for building and managing a sustainable society.

What does the Academy do?

The Swiss Permaculture Academy is a non-profit association and a reference for the permaculture movement in Switzerland.

The purpose of the Association is to:

  • be and coordinate a support network for all persons who have attended the 72-hour Permaculture Design Certificate course and who have decided to continue their training until they obtain the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design;
  • enable students certified by a PDC to start their Action Learning Pathway and graduate in Switzerland;
  • participate in the creation of quality criteria for certification and diploma courses in Switzerland;
  • work in collaboration with other permaculture experiences around the world, promoting the exchange of practices and experiences.

The Association leads initiatives with institutions, the media and civil society in general, aimed at achieving its objectives in accordance with the ethics of permaculture.
